APPRECIATIVE QUESTION: Imagine Wayne County as a vibrant, connected, resilient and safe community where resources are highly accessible for all. What would it look like, how would it feel, how can each of us individually move this forward?

Wayne County, Indiana

The I-HOPE Northeast Field Implementation Team serves Wayne County, which is located in east central Indiana with Richmond as the county seat―a city that literally rose from the ashes following a devastating business-district fire in the 1960s.

While Wayne County has much to be proud, it’s listed among a handful of counties ranked highest in Indiana on national vulnerability indexes for economic and social risk.

Wayne County Cares, an emerging health equity support movement, has partnered with I-HOPE to lead community stakeholders in imagining the county as a vibrant, connected, resilient, and safe community where resources are highly accessible for all.

I-HOPE Projects

  • HOUSING STABILITY: Developing point-of-contact, wraparound services

  • MENTAL HEALTH WORKGROUP: Utilizing the Youth INspire platform to educate the community on mental health

  • EARLY LEARNING/CHILDCARE WORKGROUP: Drawing interest and talent into the early learning and childcare workforce

  • FOOD SECURITY WORKGROUP: Establishing a therapeutic gardening program for Richmond High School Alternative Education students

  • PARENTING/FAMILY SUPPORT WORKGROUP: Coordinating outreach into the neighborhoods

  • CHRONIC DISEASE WORKGROUP: Developing and launching a community health marketing and communications campaign

  • TRANSPORTATION WORKGROUP: Using manufacturing businesses, existing infrastructure, and travel routes to increase transportation to the public

  • SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER WORKGROUP: Creating a central resource hub for SUD services

  • TRAUMA WORKGROUP: Raising awareness about the impact of trauma through "Trauma Talk" opportunities at community events

  • WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT WORKGROUP: Creating a work-ready pipeline for those not going to college

Wayne County Cares is an opportunity to break down silos, increase collaboration, and sustain the great work we do.
